BSNL comes out as looser in Mobile Number Portability
BSNL, State owned telecom service provider is facing severe customers loss due to arrival of Mobile Number Portability. According to Sources, within the first 20 days of the launch of MNP, BSNL has lost more than 20,000 customers in the Punjab circle alone. However, around 3,000 subscribers have also joined its network during the same period making net customer loss to 17,000 . Poor infrastructure, lazy customer care, shoddy Voice quality and lack of Tempting VAS are major cause of this loss and now it would be a challenge for BSNL to overcome from it.
In Haryana, where MNP was launched on a trial basis on Nov 25, 2010, BSNL has lost over 33,000 connections. Vodafone and Tata DoCoMo have gained at the cost of the state-owned company, with the former adding almost 14,400 customers.
According to TRAI officials , till February 5, about 17.11 lakh requests have been made for porting . Of these, around 2.29 lakh requests pertain to Haryana Service area, wherein MNP was implemented earlier. The top gainers from MNP are Vodafone, which is leading in seven of its 17 Licence Service Area (LSAs). Airtel is next with a lead in four LSAs.
