HTC Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z and Incredible S Will Get Gingerbread in Q2
The Incredible S was one of the few handsets at the MWC to ship with FroYo (Android 2.2). Back then, HTC reps had promised a quick Gingerbread update. Now, they have confirmed that the promised update is indeed under development, and will go live by Q2, 2011. While a four month wait is not “quick” under normal circumstances, I guess that most Android owners will take it.
We had already confirmed that the Desire HD, Desire Z, and Desire will be receiving Gingerbread updates. Now, thanks to Slashgear, we can confirm that they will also be getting the update in Q2 (and not in Q3, as we had speculated). This bit of news should cheer up the original Desire owners, who have already experienced one major version bump. Desire’s sibling – the HTC-made Google Nexus One, has already begun receiving Android 2.3.
It’s heartening to see HTC not abandoning the aging Desire, which was once its flagship handset. While Xperia X10 is yet to receive Android 2.1 in the US, many of Samsung’s Galaxy S models have just begun receiving FroYo. Although, we would like to see even faster update deployment, for now we will be happy if other manufacturers take cue from HTC.
