  • Playbook to Run Android AppsResearch In Motion (RIM) is busy in making its Playbook tablet for sale and the details are already emerging about this device.
According, to the news, RIM is planning to allow the software for Playbook, to run apps for Google’s Android. Bloomberg reported, “RIM is going to integrate the technology with the Playbook Operating system in order to allow access to Android’s vast fleet of applications.
The software development is being done in-house by Research In Motion. They were previously looking outside the company first but later on settled on doing it internally.
Interestingly, when RIM announced Playbook, it said that it is working on next-generation Java virtual machine. But, later on rumors came out that RIM is planning to go with Delvik, an open source virtual machine that Google use for Android.
Now, getting into more details, RIM has to provide Java virtual machine and should support for the Android Application framework. After doing this, Playbook is not going to run all the Android application right off the bat. In fact, it will able to run only 130,000 apps out of 230,000 Android apps that are available in the market.
