Wireless Subscription swells to 771 million but only 71 % are active: TRAI

TRAI has revealed in a press note today that wireless and wireline subscriber base has reached to 806.13 million as on 31st January,2011.  Overall teledensity in India has risen to 67.67 . Wireless subscriber base (GSM +CDMA+FWP) has increased from 752.19 million to 771.18 million.  Wireless teledensity stands at 64.74.

TRAI has since last few months started publishing the VLR (Visitor Location Register) subscriber base data as it gives more accurate picture of actual number of active subscribers. VLR subscription data reveals that the number of active wireless subscribers is 548.66 million i.e. almost 71% of the subscriber base figure of 771 million.  Bharti Airtel and Idea cellular have highest proportion of VLR (Active ) subscribers . Bharti leads the tally with 92.63% of the customers as active in VLR while Idea follows with 90.34 % .
